The Firearms Control Bill, introduced in Parliament on 19 May 2000, would impose strict controls on gun sales, ownership and use and would promote responsible gun ownership. The Portfolio Committee on Safety and Security will hold public hearings on the legislation beginning 14 June 2000.

The Gun Control Alliance is urging concerned churches and community groups to make submissions in support of this legislation. In November 1999, the Alliance prepared materials to assist us to draft submissions and to organise other activities in support of the law.
